SAMARIA. 'Middle Levantine' Series. Circa 375-333 BC. Obol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.53 g, 1 h). Helmeted male figure advacing left, pulling horse (or donkey?) to left by bridle, the horse's head turned backwards; to left, 𐡔𐡋 ('šl' in Aramaic); all within dotted square border. Rev. Lion leaping left, head turned back to right; below, head of a ram to left; to upper right, 𐡋𐡔 ('lš in Aramaic); all within dotted square border within incuse square. HGC 10, -. Meshorer & Qedar 65. Sofaer 86. Beautifully toned and with a very attractive reverse. The obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, extremely fine.
